Compartment syndrome due to subcutaneous injection of insecticides (cypermethrins and pyrethroids) in a failed suicide attempt
Abstract
Autolytic events in Ecuador increased by 3.4% from 2000 to 2012, according to the WHO, it is estimated that an average of two people per day die by suicide in our country. The ingestion of agrochemical pesticides and insecticides is the most common method and represents a vitally important emergency with a high mortality rate; however, the literature has reported suicide attempts by the subcutaneous parenteral route. The following article presents a new form of autolytic attempt, two clinical cases of subcutaneous administration of insecticides are presented, who develop an important local necrotic-inflammatory reaction with compartment syndrome and abscess in the agrochemical administration areas, a situation that compromises the general state. of the patient but that do not lead to their final task; it is important to determine the knowledge of the people about this new form of administration to keep it in mind at the time of a clinical evaluation of the patient.
